Bijon Sarker (1935-2012), born: Gaibandha, Bangladesh. Bijon Sarker began taking photographs of landscapes, mosques, temples and people in his teens using his older brother’s Kodak Box camera. Self-educated, he joined the Khalifa Photographers Studio in Dhaka in 1959. Here he became acquainted with Manzoor Alam Beg and his photographic activities. The official photographer of Bangladesh Tourism Corporation for 23 years and a founder member of Bangladesh Photographic Society (BPS), he became its president in the nineties. His many national and international awards include a first in the ACCU in 1977.
